Air Force One | Cuyahoga County Courthouse — Marble Stairs for a Dictator's Last Night

Inside the palace, the raid moves through corridors that are far too grand for a Central Asian strongman with a six-year reign. Marble treads, a balustrade of carved stone, stained glass throwing color onto uniformed extras. That interior belongs to the Cuyahoga County Courthouse, a Beaux-Arts pile finished in 1912 on the lakefront edge of downtown Cleveland.

The building was designed for civic theatre, which is why it films so well. Lever Brothers money and Progressive-era confidence bought a grand hall with murals, allegorical figures over the entrance, and a staircase built to be descended slowly. When the crew came through in 1996, they barely had to dress it. Add a few Soviet-looking flags and the room stops being Ohio.

It still works as a courthouse — the Eighth District Court of Appeals sits here — so the way in is on a weekday, through the security line, the same as anyone with business upstairs. If that feels like too much, stand on Lakeside Avenue instead. The front elevation, with Lake Erie behind you and the Convention Center to your left, is the shot the second unit took.
