Biography | Brendan Bechtel — The First Silver Line Train Left This Platform at Noon
kevin
Northern Virginia treats the Silver Line as a Metro fact. For Bechtel it was a named job on the fifth-generation track.
Phase 1 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail was built by Dulles Transit Partners, a consortium led by Bechtel Infrastructure, for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
The line ran about 11.7 miles from East Falls Church to Wiehle Avenue in Reston.
It added five stations, six miles of elevated track, and a tunnel under Tysons.
Bechtel announced substantial completion on 24 April 2014 from Reston.
Wikipedia, citing Fortune, records that Brendan Bechtel helped manage the Dulles Corridor work, overlapping with his sister Katherine.
On 26 July 2014 the five new stations opened at noon. The first passenger train left Wiehle-Reston East for Largo Town Center.
This platform was the western end of the Silver Line until 15 November 2022.
The station sits at 1862 Wiehle Avenue. The photograph on file was taken here on opening day.
Phase 2, to Dulles Airport and Ashburn, was built by a different joint venture.
Bechtel's piece is the first eleven-odd miles and this terminus.
A rider still boards the same island platform. The contractor's name is not on the pylon. The date is.
