Hur Jun | Korean Folk Village — The Market Where a Clinic Could Be Built Overnight

The dirt lanes at Korean Folk Village in Yongin still hold the smell of woodsmoke on a cold morning. Thatched roofs sit a few steps from tile. A wooden bridge crosses a stream that productions have used so often the village keeps a generator rule: no buried power, so the Joseon street can stay dark when the cameras leave.

Hur Jun needed villages more than it needed marble. Yoo Ui-tae's clinic, the smuggling roads, the commoner houses where a pulse was taken on a floor mat — those scenes were built from relocated late-Joseon houses that have stood here since 1974. A 2007 Women's Dong-A location survey listed the folk village among the preserved sageuk stages for Hur Jun, Dae Jang Geum, and Sangdo. More than sixty dramas have used the same manor houses and market street.

You pay admission at 90 Minsokchon-ro, Giheung-gu. Farmers' dance, a smithy, kimchi jars under an eave. The village is a living museum, not a closed lot. Walk the commoner quarter first. That is the part the series trusted when it wanted a patient who could not reach Hanyang. The horses and the painted sky can wait.
