American Psycho | Biff's Bistro — The Confession Nobody Accepts

The last scene is a bar. Bateman has already left the message on his lawyer's machine confessing to everything, and now he is in a room full of men in suits and the lawyer is laughing at him, calling him by the wrong name, explaining that Paul Allen is alive and having dinner in London. Bateman says the words again. Nobody hears them. That is the ending: not a punishment, an absence of one.

The bar in the film is called Harry's. The room is at 4 Front Street East in Toronto, then the Boston Club, since 2003 the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant Biff's Bistro — a French bistro with a long bar, banquettes and a heated terrace on Front Street. It is still trading, which makes it the rarest thing on this list: a location where you can order a drink and sit inside the exact final frame.

The setting matters more than it looks. This corner of Front Street East is the old wholesale district, and the Gooderham Building — the copper-red flatiron of 1892 — stands two minutes west at Wellington and Church, wedged into its triangle. Bateman's world is all 1980s glass and matte black; the street outside his final scene is Victorian brick that has outlasted several generations of men exactly like him.
