Biography | Matthew Bromberg — The Law Library Where a Cornell English Major Took a J.D.
kevin
Matthew S. Bromberg arrived at Harvard Law School from Cornell with an English degree, not a computer-science one.
Langdell Hall is the building that still holds the school's library, the largest academic law library in the world, on Holmes Field in Cambridge.
He left it with a J.D. and was admitted to the New York bar in 1995.
That sequence is the documented start of a career that later ran Major League Gaming, Zynga's studios, and Unity Software.
The English-to-law path is easy to misread as a detour.
It was the opposite.
The gaming companies he later ran were media businesses first: audiences, rights, advertising, and the contracts that hold a live-service product together.
A law degree does not write a game engine.
It does teach a person how a league, a publisher, and a public company actually hold together when the product is software.
Langdell itself is not a romantic origin shed.
James Barr Ames commissioned the limestone pile in 1905 because H. H. Richardson's Austin Hall had run out of room.
Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge finished the south wing by autumn 1907; the rest of the building was in use by January 1908.
The library stacks, the reading room, and the tiered classrooms are still the public face of the school.
Bromberg is a living executive.
Nothing here is a claim about his current address or his daily route to work.
The pin is the public building where the degree was earned, and the date is the year the New York bar recorded his admission.
Unity's 8-K of 1 May 2024, filed when the board named him chief executive, repeats the same two schools: a B.A. in English from Cornell and a J.D. from Harvard Law.
Those two lines are the whole educational record the company put on the public file.
A visitor who stands on Holmes Field sees a law school that has outgrown several buildings and kept this one.
That is the place to start his map.
