Biography | Walt Disney — The Cottage Flora Designed and Elias Built on Tripp Avenue

People file Walt Disney as a product of a Missouri farm and a California studio lot.
The first address was a carpenter's cottage on Chicago's Northwest Side.
Elias Disney bought the lot on the southwest corner of Tripp Avenue on 31 October 1891.
On 23 November 1892 he took a city permit to build an 18-by-28-foot two-story wood cottage for $800.
Flora Disney drew the plans. Elias built the house.
The family moved in during early 1893 with two sons already born, Herbert and Raymond.
Roy Oliver Disney was born in the house on 24 June 1893.
Walter Elias Disney was born on the second floor on 5 December 1901.
Ruth followed on 6 December 1903.
Chicago renumbered the street in 1909. The cottage that had been 1249 Tripp became 2156 North Tripp Avenue, in Hermosa.
Elias sold the property to Walter Chamberlain on 10 February 1906 and took the family to Marceline, Missouri.
Walt was four.
A later bid to landmark the house failed. In 2013 Dina Benadon and Brent Young bought it and began the restoration now called The Walt Disney Birthplace.
Tours are offered from the restored cottage. The pin is the house, not a studio gate.
