Esports | Apex Legends | TSM — The Three-Win Match-Point Finish at Resorts World Arena

On Sunday, September 10, 2023, the Apex Legends Global Series Year 3 Championship reached its Match Point Finals inside Resorts World Arena near Birmingham. TSM entered the eighth game after winning Games 6 and 7, but a third consecutive victory was still required to turn its late points surge into the world title.
This was the publisher-run global circuit for Apex Legends, organized by Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment. Forty teams attended the five-day LAN, and bracket play reduced the field to 20 three-player squads for the final; the competition ran on Windows PCs during Season 18: Resurrection, the live production season from August 8 to October 30, although no event-only build number or storefront client was publicly identified.
Apex Legends is a battle royale: squads collect equipment, fight, and try to remain alive as a damaging ring contracts around the map. In the finals, each elimination was worth one point and placement added up to 12 points for a match win, but the championship was not awarded simply to the highest cumulative score.
Under Match Point rules, a squad first had to reach at least 50 points, then win a later match; points earned in the threshold-crossing match could not also finish the tournament. This left an eligible team balancing the same immediate goal as every rival—survive and win—against opponents who could extend the final by eliminating it.
TSM’s lineup was Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen, Jordan “Reps” Wolfe, and Evan “Verhulst” Verhulst. The team stood on 22 points after Game 5, earned 18 by winning Game 6, then earned 19 by winning Game 7 to reach 59 and become match-point eligible.
Seven teams could end the tournament when Game 8 began on Storm Point. TSM outlasted the field and defeated SAF Esports in the final engagement, completing three consecutive match wins; its final total was 83 points, while OpTic Gaming placed second despite scoring 89 because it did not win a match after becoming eligible.
The title carried the $600,000 first prize from a $2 million pool and completed the Year 3 season at the same arena where EA had advertised and staged the in-person championship. The pin marks Resorts World Arena at Perimeter Road, B40 1NT—the event-date name of the building now called bp pulse LIVE—not an organizer office or a city-center substitute.
