On December 12, 2021, Acend and Gambit Esports sat on the Verti Music Hall stage in Berlin for the grand final of the first VALORANT Champions. Acend won three maps to two, becoming the inaugural champion of Riot Games’ season-ending global tournament.
VALORANT is a five-versus-five tactical shooter in which one side attacks bomb sites with a device called the Spike while the other defends them. Teams win maps by taking rounds—normally the first to thirteen, with overtime requiring a two-round margin—and the best-of-five final went to the first team to win three maps.
Acend fielded BONECOLD, cNed, Kiles, starxo and zeek; Gambit started Chronicle, d3ffo, nAts, Redgar and Sheydos. The match ran on the Windows PC edition in the Patch 3.10 competition window, and no undocumented tournament build, operating-system revision or hardware configuration is inferred.
Gambit took Breeze 13–11 before Acend answered 13–7 on Ascent. Gambit then controlled Fracture 13–3, leaving Acend one map from elimination, but Acend won Icebox 14–12 in overtime and forced a deciding fifth map.
On Split, Acend led 7–5 at halftime and completed the map 13–8. That result made the series 3–2 and awarded Acend the championship; Riot’s later tournament history identifies Acend’s 2021 squad as the first VALORANT Champions winners.
The place pin is intentionally limited to the final. Group play and quarterfinals were staged at Marlene-Dietrich-Halle, while the semifinals and grand final moved to Verti Music Hall, so this memory does not attach the earlier matches to the later arena.
