American Wedding|Chapman University — A College Lobby Playing Hospital

Chapman University sits five blocks north of the plaza, which is the whole reason it is in this film. The unit was already parked in Old Towne Orange and needed an interior with a wide formal lobby. The lobby they used stood in for the East Great Falls hospital, and for the flower shop's entrance as well — two fictional buildings, one set of doors, a day apart. Universities are useful that way. They have stone, they have ceiling height, and they empty out over the summer. The campus is open to walk through, and the older buildings along the Chapman Avenue frontage carry exactly the look the production wanted: pale masonry, tall windows, lawns that read as institution rather than college. Come in term time and students are eating lunch where a crew once ran a hospital corridor. Nobody on campus mentions it. The shot survives anyway, which is more than most locations of this kind can claim.
