Biography|Brian S. Tyler — The First McKesson Desk Was in This Tower on Post Street

In 1997 Brian S. Tyler joined McKesson as vice president of strategy and business development for Distribution Solutions.

The company's principal executive offices that year were at McKesson Plaza, One Post Street, San Francisco.

The 38-storey tower stands at Post and Market, over a BART entrance, in the Financial District.

An SEC filing from 1997 gives the same address and the telephone number 415-983-8300.

He was about thirty.

He had just left Integral, Inc., a Cambridge healthcare consultancy.

The first McKesson title was not chief executive.

It was a strategy job inside the wholesaling business that already moved medicines across North America.

He stayed.

Over the next two decades he ran Specialty Health, Medical-Surgical, U.S. Pharmaceutical, and North American Pharmaceutical Distribution.

From 2012 to 2015 he was executive vice president for corporate strategy and business development.

The tower later went through a sale-and-leaseback.

McKesson left San Francisco as its global headquarters on 1 April 2019, the same day Tyler became chief executive, and named the Las Colinas campus in Irving, Texas, instead.

He has said in a later Irving ceremony that San Francisco was where he started with the company.

The pin is the building that held that start.

It is an office tower on a public corner, not a house.

A visitor still finds the octagonal plaza and the granite steps.

The name on the glass has changed.

The first desk did not.
