Biography|Lee Yong-bae — The Uiwang Block Where the Rotem Filing Put Him on the Register

On 25 March 2020 Hyundai Rotem filed a change of representative director.

Lee Geon-yong stepped down.

Lee Yong-bae, already speaking as president since the winter personnel round, went onto the corporate register.

The group's research and headquarters cluster for Rotem sits at 37 Cheoldobangmulgwan-ro in Uiwang, Gyeonggi, on the old Uiwang factory ground beside the Korea Railroad Museum and Uiwang Station.

Changwon remains the legal registered office.

Uiwang is where the research tower and the name on the elevation face the rail special zone.

A 2021 photograph on Wikimedia Commons shows that mass: Hyundai Motor's Uiwang research institute and Rotem's headquarters sharing the plot.

From the upper floors the view runs across Uiwang Station, the Bugok yards and the edge of the railroad museum.

Lee's first official weeks as registered chief were spent on a repair job already started in January: idle land in Uiwang sold, a non-core stake sold, convertibles issued, the debt ratio pulled down from the 360-percent range recorded at the end of 2019.

Bizwatch later counted about 170 billion won from the Uiwang land sale and the Green Air stake, a 341.9 billion won land revaluation, and a 240 billion won convertible taken into equity.

The point of standing here is not the spreadsheet.

It is that the man who had spent three years renaming a Yeouido broker now had his name on a rail-and-defence maker whose Korean visitors come to this Uiwang block, not to a trading floor.

The plant that actually cuts steel is in Changwon.

The office that faces the railroad museum is this one.

Rotem staff later occupied extra floors in Uiwang Smart City Quantum as a branch.

The 2020 filing is the date.
