Biography|Karen S. Lynch — The Accounting Degree She Took in Fulton Hall

Fulton Hall sits at the far end of Boston College's main quad in Chestnut Hill.

It has housed the Carroll School of Management since the building opened in 1948.

Karen Rohan, later Lynch, took an accounting degree here and finished with the class of 1984.

Boston College still lists her that way: Karen S. Lynch '84.

The choice of major was unromantic on purpose.

A student from Ware needed a credential that hired.

She left Fulton Hall as a certified public accountant and went into the Boston office of Ernst and Young, working insurance accounts.

That first job is the hinge most profiles skip.

The later titles — Cigna Dental, Magellan, Aetna, CVS Health — all sit on top of a ledger habit learned in this Gothic classroom block.

Carroll is not a secret finishing school for Fortune 500 chiefs.

It is a practical undergraduate business college on a Jesuit campus six miles west of downtown Boston.

She came back as an alumna, not as a tourist.

In October 2022 she spoke to Boston College's Chief Executives Club in the city.

In 2024 the university's Wall Street Council gave her the President's Medal for Excellence at Cipriani Wall Street.

The medal was for the career that started with the 1984 diploma, not for a speech.

Stand on the quad and Fulton is the building opposite Gasson Hall's tower.

The stone has been cleaned and the interiors remodeled, but the school is the same school.

She has described, across later interviews, the work of running a health company as still beginning with the ability to read a set of numbers without blinking.

That skill has an address.

It is this one.
