CVS Health's corporate address is One CVS Drive, Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
The campus sits in Highland Corporate Park, hard against the Massachusetts line, in a city better known for mills than for Fortune 500 headquarters.
On 5 November 2020 the CVS board appointed Karen S. Lynch president and chief executive, effective 1 February 2021.
The company announced the decision from Woonsocket the next morning.
Larry J. Merlo would step down after a decade as CEO and more than forty years with the chain.
Lynch was already inside the building, as executive vice president of CVS Health and president of Aetna, the insurer CVS had bought in 2018.
When she took the chair on 1 February 2021, CVS was the largest company in the Fortune 500 by revenue to be run by a woman.
Fortune had ranked the firm fourth or fifth, depending on the year.
The job she inherited was not a drugstore chain in the old sense.
It was a pharmacy benefits manager, an insurer, and a retail clinic network, asked in the same winter to help vaccinate the country against COVID-19.
She held the office until October 2024, when David Joyner succeeded her.
The headquarters did not move.
One CVS Drive remains the address on the company's SEC filings.
Stand at the gate and you see a suburban office park, not a tower.
The decision that put her name on those filings was taken by a board that already knew her from the Aetna integration.
The public date is 1 February 2021.
That is the morning the title changed.
