People treat a Boeing succession as a day in a Virginia boardroom.
His first working day as president and chief executive was spent on the 737 line in Renton.
On 31 July 2024 Boeing's board, speaking from the Arlington headquarters at 929 Long Bridge Drive, named Robert K. Kelly Ortberg president and CEO, effective 8 August 2024, succeeding Dave Calhoun.
The 8-K exhibit is dated Arlington. Ortberg chose not to sit there.
A staff memo published that Thursday said he would be based in Seattle to stay close to commercial airplane programs, and that he planned to be on the factory floor in Renton that same day.
The Renton Factory, next to Renton Municipal Airport, has assembled 737 airframes since 1970. It is where the MAX line and the P-8 Poseidon share a floor.
Boeing later disclosed about 300,000 dollars in relocation costs to move him to the Seattle area. The corporate headquarters legally remained in Arlington. The new chief put his working pin on the plant that builds the airplane the public was watching.
