Biography | Kristalina Georgieva — The H Street Complex Where Kim Made Her the Bank's First CEO

People treat the World Bank presidency as the only title that counts on 18th Street.

In 2017 the Bank invented a chief executive and put her in it.

On 28 October 2016 President Jim Yong Kim announced Kristalina Georgieva as CEO of IBRD and IDA, the lending arms known together as the World Bank.

The Bank's own press release said she would start on 2 January 2017 and report directly to Kim.

CNBC later called her the first person to hold the newly created CEO job.

She had already worked in the building from 1993 to 2010, leaving as vice president and corporate secretary before a European Commission decade.

The headquarters address has been 1818 H Street NW since the Bank opened for business in 1946.
