People treat a Škoda succession as a Prague story.
The company that named him sits on this street in Mladá Boleslav.
On 3 August 2020 Škoda Auto announced that Thomas Schäfer took over as chairman of the board with immediate effect.
He replaced Bernhard Maier after nearly five years in the chair.
The release went out from the registered office at třída Václava Klementa 869.
The public door on the same avenue is the Škoda Museum at number 294, in the former factory that built cars until 1928.
Herbert Diess, then Volkswagen Group chief, had pulled him out of South Africa for the job.
A Sunday Times profile later said he had not wanted the Czech winters.
The official record is simpler.
He launched NEXT LEVEL — Škoda Strategy 2030, pushed electrification including the Enyaq, and set India and North Africa as growth regions.
He held the chair until spring 2022, when Wolfsburg called him back as chief operating officer of the Volkswagen brand.
The museum is the place a visitor can enter.
The boardroom is not.
