Lupin | Falaise d’Aval — The Family Trip Breaks Apart

Assane brings Claire and Raoul to Étretat for a festival devoted to Arsène Lupin, hoping the coast will give them an ordinary family day. Instead, the white arch of Falaise d’Aval and the needle-like Aiguille frame the moment his double life reaches the people he most wants to protect: Raoul disappears, and the playful pilgrimage ends with Assane scanning the shore in panic. The location binds the Netflix story to Maurice Leblanc’s original mythology, but the scene’s emotional force is simpler—the gentleman thief can outwit a museum and still fail to control what happens to his family. Conditions have changed since filming. Municipal rules now prohibit access beneath the cliffs, through the tunnels, and across full-width beach areas beyond the promenade zone because of rockfall and tides. Stay on the seawall promenade or another marked, open viewpoint, obey barriers, and check local notices. Let the arch remain across the water; the safe distance now makes Assane’s helpless final view feel even sharper.
