Record of Youth|Gwanghalluwon — A Joseon Garden Asked to Play Another Century

Namwon's Gwanghallu Garden is a Scenic Site built around a pavilion that Joseon officials compared to the moon palace. Record of Youth borrows the lotuses, the Ojakgyo bridge, and the timber halls for scenes that need Korea older than a casting studio. The pond still holds the idea of a galaxy drawn from Yocheon Stream. Visitors still pay at the gate on Yocheon-ro.

The present pavilion was rebuilt in 1639 after the Imjin War fires. The garden around it was designated a Scenic Site in 2008. The drama is not Chunhyang. It only needs a public garden that already knows how to look like a complete world. Some matching traditional frames were also shot farther north at Mungyeong Saejae. The Namwon garden is the one you can walk with a ticket and a map.

Cross the magpie bridge and stop where the pavilion sits over the water. The boards creak. The lotuses keep the same geometry the camera used. Youth, for a few minutes, is allowed to look older than the industry that is chewing on it.
