The Adjustment Bureau | Top of the Rock — the roof where they stopped running

The last stand happens seventy floors above Rockefeller Plaza. David and Elise have run out of doors and out of options, so they climb into the open air to wait for the Chairman on the observation deck of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, holding hands over a city that has spent two hours trying to keep them apart.

The scene was shot four months after principal photography finished, which is why it feels slightly separate from everything before it — a coda filmed on a rooftop the crew had to come back for. The building itself is the 1933 centrepiece of Rockefeller Center, and the deck reopened to visitors in 2005 after decades closed, its glass panels deliberately low so the view is not fenced off from you.

Go at dusk, when the deck empties between the sunset crowd and the night crowd. Face south. Central Park sits behind your shoulders and the Empire State Building stands alone in front of you, and up there the film's central bet — that two people can be more stubborn than the plan written for them — is easier to take seriously than it has any right to be.
