30 Minutes or Less|Sixth Street Bridge — 1886 ironwork under a running man

The bridge is a hundred metres from the Brass Works door, and the film uses it the way the city does: as the fastest way across the Grand on foot. Nick runs it. The camera stays low, the iron latticework strobes past, and the far bank arrives faster than you expect.

The Sixth Street Bridge is the oldest bridge in Grand Rapids, a wrought-iron truss span put up in 1886 and now carrying pedestrians and light traffic rather than the wagons it was built for. Four spans, painted white, riveted at every joint — the kind of engineering that shows all its working. Experience Grand Rapids lists it with the small riverside park at its eastern foot, which is the best place to see the trusses whole.

Come early, before the river path fills. The deck rings differently under a bicycle than under shoes. Halfway across, stop and look south: the rapids the city is named for were engineered away long ago, but the water still moves fast enough here to be loud, and for a moment you understand why a director would ask an actor to sprint over it instead of driving around.
