Biography|Robert Shaye — The Robertson Plaza Offices He Left When New Line Became a Warner Unit
kevin
For twenty-two years New Line's Los Angeles address was this office block at 116 North Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood, Robertson Plaza.
Variety's 2004 studio timeline dates the Los Angeles office to 1986. The company kept the suite until June 2014, six years after Shaye left, when the label moved onto the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.
28 February 2008 is the last chapter of his run as chief.
That afternoon Time Warner announced that New Line would cease to operate as a stand-alone studio and would become a unit of Warner Bros. The New York Times reported the decision the next morning. Shaye and his co-chairman Michael Lynne stepped down as co-CEOs.
The company they left behind had already done the work that put the name on this building: the Nightmare on Elm Street films that opened on 9 November 1984, the turtles, Austin Powers, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy that New Line greenlit as three pictures at once.
Turner Broadcasting had bought New Line in 1994. Time Warner inherited the studio in the 1996 Turner merger. The 2008 consolidation ended the independent payroll of about six hundred people.
Robertson Plaza is a 1966 office property of roughly 100,000 square feet. It is a commercial block, not a house. The pin is the public headquarters he occupied, not a private address.
New Line still exists as a Warner Bros. label. The founder does not run it.
