McDonald's left Oak Brook in 2018 and opened a new headquarters at 110 North Carpenter Street in Chicago's West Loop.
Kempczinski was already inside that building.
He had joined the company in October 2015 as corporate executive vice president for strategy, business development and innovation.
In January 2017 he became president of McDonald's USA, responsible for the U.S. restaurants.
On 1 November 2019 the board named him president and chief executive officer and a member of the board.
The SEC Form 8-K filed 4 November 2019 records the effective date as 1 November 2019.
He succeeded Steve Easterbrook, who left the same day after the board found a violation of company policy.
The company's own press release went out on 3 November 2019 from Chicago.
The pin is the Carpenter Street campus, which also holds the rebuilt Hamburger University.
It is a public corporate address, not a private office.
The photograph shows the new campus in August 2018, the year the company arrived, the year before the appointment.
