Biography | Kam Ghaffarian — The Greenbelt Road Office Sold to KBR for 355 Million

By the time KBR announced the purchase on 23 February 2018, Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies occupied Suite 400 at 7701 Greenbelt Road.

The building is an ordinary suburban office block west of NASA Goddard, not a campus with a rocket on the lawn.

Ghaffarian and Harold Stinger had founded the firm in 1994.

SpaceNews, writing in 2013, said they quit contractor jobs and started in Ghaffarian's basement.

That basement is a private house and is not pinned here.

What grew from it is this headquarters address, repeated in Maryland filings and in KBR's deal papers.

SGT became, in the company's and in later press accounts, NASA's second-largest engineering services contractor, with about 2,500 employees and annual revenue above half a billion dollars.

Work included ISS operations and astronaut training support out of Johnson Space Center as well as Goddard.

KBR, in a 23 February 2018 release and an SEC filing, agreed to pay 355 million dollars for the company.

SGT was to become a unit of KBRwyle.

Washington Technology and SpaceNews both dated the announcement to that Friday.

The Greenbelt Road suite is the place the grown company listed as home when the check was written.

Ghaffarian used the sale to fund the next stack of firms already under way: X-energy (2009), Intuitive Machines (2013), and Axiom Space (2016).

The building is still an office block.

It does not advertise the sale.

The memory is the price and the date, tied to the address on the contract.
