Master's Sun|Incheon Airport Terminal 1 — The Hall She Almost Left Through

Late in the run Gong-shil tries to leave the country. The drama puts that attempt in a real departure hall, not on a soundstage painted as one.

Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 was the only passenger terminal when Master's Sun aired in August 2013. Terminal 2 did not open until 2018. The great check-in nave — the white trusses, the long banks of desks, the glass that looks toward the apron — is still the building fans walk when they come looking for that last chase. Wikimedia photographs of the departure interior sit at about 37.4493 north, 126.4507 east. Japanese location tours still list the airport as the place Gong-shil, carrying another woman's unfinished business, nearly boards before the plot pulls her back.

You do not need a boarding pass to stand in the public departures hall. You need time and a tolerance for rolling suitcases. The space is louder than the mall in Dongtan and colder than the pool on Namsan. That is the point. Kingdom could hold her. This hall is designed to release people.

Look down the length of the nave once. Then turn around and take the AREX back toward Seoul. The drama's joke, and its tenderness, is that she does the same thing.
