Heartstrings | Gyeongbokgung Palace — The Court That Frames a Traditional Major

A gayageum major in Seoul does not study in a vacuum. The instrument was paid for, for centuries, by the court that sits ten minutes west of Bukchon.

Gyeongbokgung occupies 161 Sajik-ro, Jongno-gu. The public entrance is Gwanghwamun. The throne hall, Geunjeongjeon, sits on axis behind it at roughly 37.5796 north, 126.9770 east. Ticket or hanbok, then the long stone court. Changing of the guard still runs on a posted schedule at the gate.

The palace is that institution in stone. Students in the series walk a city that still keeps the hall where court musicians once played for a king. Stand on the stones in front of Geunjeongjeon and face north. The mountains close the composition the way they did in every establishing shot this neighborhood has ever given a camera. The drama borrowed that frame. The frame was already here.
