長野市松代の平地から見ると、皆神山は周囲の稜線から離れ、丸い屋根のような輪郭を持ち上げる。『世紀末オカルト学院』の公式イントロダクションは、この実在の山を「日本のピラミッド」と呼び、その山頂に架空の私立ヴァルトシュタイン学院がそびえる、と物語の座標を明記している。[公式イントロダクション](https://www.occult-gakuin.jp/intro/)

記憶の日付はテレビアニメ第1話の放送開始日、2010年7月5日。北西側から山を見ると、雪の屋根が連なる松代の向こうで、裾の広い孤峰だけが一段濃く立ち上がる。架空の学院は見えなくても、山頂に物語の中心を置いた構図は、この輪郭から読み取れる。
