Princess Hours|Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond — The Garden the Cars Drove Past

The cars in Princess Hours do not circle a Joseon pond. They slide along the reconstructed banks of Wolji, the Silla crown prince's garden in Gyeongju, still printed on older maps as Anapji.

VisitKorea and later Korea Times reporting both place the palace courtyards here: the front and back yards of the fictional court, and the private garden where the royal family could be seen without a throne. King Munmu ordered the pond in 674. Three islands sit in an oval of water. At night the rebuilt pavilions throw their lights onto the surface and the place becomes the image fans remember from the drama more than any Seoul hall.

The site is public, ticketed, and open after dark. That matters. The series used daylight processions and evening stillness in the same frame. You can still do both in one visit. Walk the path that follows the old stone embankment. The water holds the pavilions the way the cameras held them.

Gyeongju is two hours from Seoul by KTX. The garden is not a set that vanished. It is a Silla pond that a 2006 romance borrowed, and then gave back.
