Rooftop Prince|N Seoul Tower — The Beacon That Was Not in the Old Maps

Joseon Seoul had watch fires on Namsan. It did not have this tower.

N Seoul Tower stands at 105 Namsangongwon-gil, the concrete needle every time-travel drama eventually has to look at. Rooftop Prince used the mountain and the observatory the way Boys Over Flowers and The Legend of the Blue Sea did: as the one object on the skyline that tells a man from 1718 he is not in his own century.

The cable car and the shuttle both deliver you to the same plaza of locks and antennas. The fortress wall still runs the ridge. The tower sits on top of it as if the masonry had always been a foundation for a transmission mast. It was not. The wall is Joseon. The tower is 1969, rebuilt as the N Seoul Tower the cameras know.

Walk the wall path instead of only riding the elevator. From the stones you see both versions of the mountain at once: the beacon hill the prince would have recognized, and the needle he could not have named.
