Signal | Wausan-ro, Sangsu-dong — The Sandwich After the Call

Wausan-ro 44 is a sandwich shop on a slope that feeds Hongdae.

Park Hae-young comes here in Signal the way a tired profiler comes anywhere that sells food without questions. The walkie-talkie has already done its work for the day. The street has not. Students, bands, and delivery bikes use the same pavement. The Subway sign is ordinary on purpose. The drama needed a place that would still be a place after the credits.

Sangsu Station on Line 6 puts you at the bottom of the hill. Walk up Wausan-ro and the neighborhood tightens: clubs, studios, fried-chicken steam. Number 44 sits in that mix. A few alleys over, at Wausan-ro 3-gil, Hae-young meets an entertainment-agency man. The district does both jobs at once. It is a set and a lunch hour.

What stays with you is the mismatch. A man who talks to 1995 over a dead radio sits under fluorescent light and unwraps a sandwich. The past is a murder file. The present is a paper cup. Signal never pretends those two rooms are the same size. It only asks you to watch a detective eat between them.

Buy something if the shop is open. Then stand on the slope and look toward Hapjeong. The call, if it comes, will not come from the street. The street is only where he waited.
