The road up Naksan does not look like a date. It is a municipal park road, opened when Seoul tore apartments off the camel-backed hill in 2002 and planted a park on 152,000 square metres of granite. Then Ma Bok-nam puts Yoon Ji-ho on the back of a scooter and rides her into the dark.

From the first observation deck the city is a grid of sodium and LED. Dongdaemun sits below the wall. Jongno runs west toward the palaces. Couples lean on the same rail the drama used. The fortress walk from the playground to Hyehwamun is a kilometre and a half of rebuilt stone, and at night the lamps make the masonry look warmer than it is.

VisitKorea and the city park pages still send you to 41 Naksan-gil. The hill is 125 metres. You can walk it from Daehangno in twenty minutes or take the village bus from Dongmyo. The view does not need a plot. The plot just taught a generation which railing to stand at.

Stand there after the last cafe on Daehangno closes. The wind comes over the wall first. Then the city.
