Biography|Gosta Malm — The Road-and-Water Diploma Issued on Drottninggatan

The building on Drottninggatan 95 still looks like a small palace of applied science.

Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander finished it in 1863 for Teknologiska institutet, soon restyled Kungliga Tekniska högskolan.

Gösta Malm walked in as an ordinary student on 15 September 1891.

He had sat his leaving exam at the higher realskola on Norrmalm four months earlier, on 14 May.

On 16 April 1895 the school of road and hydraulic engineering handed him his avgångsexamen.

That is the date that turns a farmer's son from Estuna into a civilingenjör.

KTH had not yet moved to Valhallavägen.

The laboratories going up beside this block in the mid-1890s were the new edge of the campus, not a different city.

The next year he was a leveller on the state railway works.

By October 1898 he was site chief for water and sewers in Oxelösund.

In 1899 Stockholm's waterworks hired him under Fredrik Vilhelm Hansen, the partnership that would send him to Norsborg.

The diploma on this street is the hinge.

Without it there is no site chief, no power station, no Skanska chair.

The main range is offices now.

The façade on Drottninggatan is the same Scholander brick and plaster a student in 1895 passed every morning.
