People treat AppLovin as a Palo Alto advertising and gaming house that always printed APP on a rising book.
The April 2021 issuer was a nine-year-old mobile-app platform backed by KKR, sold after a year of stay-at-home demand.
AppLovin's 15 April 2021 pricing release recorded an offering of 25,000,000 Class A shares at 80 dollars a share.
The company sold 22,500,000 of those shares. KKR Denali Holdings L.P. sold 2,500,000, and the underwriters received an option on another 3,750,000 from KKR Denali.
Reuters the same day put the priced book at a 28.64 billion dollar valuation in 2021 currency and total proceeds of 2 billion dollars.
Class A shares were to open on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on 15 April 2021 under APP.
CNBC recorded an opening print of 70 dollars. Bloomberg recorded a close of 65.20 dollars, an 18 percent decline from the 80-dollar offer, and a market value of about 23 billion dollars in 2021 currency on the shares then outstanding.
The mechanism is a dual-class app-and-ad platform priced at the midpoint of its range and marked down on the first public tape.
An 80-dollar offer that closes at 65.20 dollars is not a scarcity auction. It is a book that found fewer public buyers than the private round had implied.
Nasdaq MarketSite at 4 Times Square is the public facade of that market. Interior studios are not a visitor floor.
