People treat Marriott as a Bethesda lodging house that always printed MAR after a finished Nasdaq book.
The 1968 issuer was Marriott Corporation, the renamed successor of Hot Shoppes, a Washington restaurant chain that had already moved into motor hotels.
The company's own anniversary post dates the first New York Stock Exchange session to 26 August 1968.
That account says the shares had previously traded over the counter and that the opening print was 33.50 U.S. dollars a share in 1968 dollars on volume of 17,400 shares under MHS, for Marriott Hot Shoppes.
J. W. Marriott Jr. restated the same date, price, volume, and letters in a 2021 note that also names Merle Wick of the Exchange's Department of Stock List.
The 1968 annual report covers the fifty-two weeks ended 28 July 1968, the fiscal year that closed just before that listing.
The present lodging issuer, Marriott International, later moved the surviving common from this exchange to Nasdaq under MAR on 21 October 2013.
The 1968 mechanism is an over-the-counter restaurant-and-hotel book that took a Big Board tape under the old Hot Shoppes letters.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that first printed MHS.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
