People treat Humana as a Louisville insurer that always printed HUM after a finished Medicare book.
The 1968 issuer was Extendicare Inc., a nursing-home chain opened in Louisville in 1961.
It went public that year at 8 dollars a share.
By the end of 1968 the Louisville record has the tape above 80 dollars in 1968 currency.
The same year the company leased its first hospital, in Huntsville, Alabama.
It sold the nursing-home book in 1972 and took the Humana name in January 1974.
The letters HUM still print on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a 1968 cash offering that later dropped the nursing homes and kept the hospital-then-insurance issuer.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
