People treat Jacobs as a Dallas solutions house that always printed a single letter J after a finished New York book.
The 1989 issuer was Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., a California-founded engineering firm dating to 1947.
The company itself dated its New York Stock Exchange anniversary to 15 December 1989 and, thirty years later, still treated that date as the listing.
Market-data services commonly start a continuous series on that December day under the older letters JEC.
On 10 December 2019 Jacobs began trading under the updated ticker J, and JEC stopped on the same tape.
The company said the change marked its thirtieth year on the Exchange.
On 29 August 2022 a holding-company reorganization put Jacobs Solutions Inc. in place of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. as the listed parent.
The ordinary shares continued without interruption under the same letter J, with a new CUSIP.
The letters J still open on this exchange.
The mechanism is a 1989 engineering listing that later changed its ticker without opening a second common book, then swapped the parent name without changing the tape.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange on the morning the single-letter book opened.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
