Finance History | 11 Wall Street — A St. Petersburg Circuit Book Called JBL
kevin
People treat Jabil as a St. Petersburg manufacturing house that always printed JBL after a finished New York book.
The April 1993 issuer was Jabil Circuit, Inc., a Florida electronics manufacturer that had moved its headquarters from Detroit in 1982.
Company histories date the initial public offering to April 1993, with the common shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange under JBL.
Those accounts say about 20 to 30 percent of the equity was offered, depending on whether the underwriters took the over-allotment, and that chairman William D. Morean still held a controlling block after the sale.
Market-data services commonly start a continuous JBL series on 29 April 1993.
A later shelf registration incorporates a Form 8-A filed 28 April 1998 as the New York listing description still in force.
The listed name became Jabil Inc. in June 2017. The letters on the tape stayed JBL.
The letters JBL still open on this exchange.
The mechanism is a contract manufacturer floating a minority book while keeping family control, then renaming the issuer without opening a second common tape.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange on the morning the circuit book opened.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
