People treat Ross Stores as a Dublin, California off-price chain that always printed ROST after a finished Nasdaq book.
The August 1985 issuer was Ross Stores, Inc. Investors had bought six Bay Area junior department stores in 1982 and converted them to the Dress for Less format.
The company's investor FAQ records the offering date as 8 August 1985 and the initial price as 17 dollars a share in 1985 currency.
The same FAQ states that the shares trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the letters ROST.
The company later restated that 17-dollar print as 53 cents after subsequent splits.
The present tape is still ROST on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
The mechanism is a growth IPO that funded a three-year leap from six converted stores to more than a hundred off-price rooms.
The pin is the public Times Square facade of Nasdaq MarketSite, the present street marker for the tape that now prints ROST.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
