People treat Nike as a Beaverton apparel house that always printed NKE after a finished New York book.
The December 1980 issuer was Nike, Inc., the Oregon successor to Blue Ribbon Sports.
Market listing tables record that the common began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on 2 December 1980.
Later split arithmetic used by Motley Fool counts seven subsequent two-for-one splits and restates a first-day price near 23 U.S. dollars in 1980 dollars as about 0.18 U.S. dollars on a split-adjusted basis.
Phil Knight's later memoir records that the registered range shown to the public that autumn was 18 to 22 U.S. dollars a share in 1980 dollars, with about two million Class B shares offered.
The present tape is still NKE on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a cash initial public offering that put an already-operating footwear maker onto the New York tape under the letters it still uses.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that first printed NKE.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
