People treat Occidental Petroleum as a Houston producer that always printed OXY after a finished New York book.
The March 1964 issuer was Occidental Petroleum Corporation, the California oil company incorporated in 1920.
A company history compiled from Occidental's own record states that by March 1964 the shares were trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Independent listing directories record the New York listing date as 3 March 1964 under the letters OXY.
The present tape is still OXY on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a Big Board listing that moved a West Coast oil book onto the New York tape under the letters it still uses.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that has printed OXY since that March.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
