People treat McKesson as an Irving drug-distribution house that always printed MCK after a finished New York book.
The January 1999 issuer was McKesson Corporation, a San Francisco wholesaler whose common already traded here under MCK.
A joint proxy dated 27 November 1998 described a merger in which each HBO and Company share would convert into 0.37 of a McKesson common share.
Shareholders approved the deal on 12 January 1999, and the combined company began operations the next session as McKesson HBOC, Inc.
HBOC's Nasdaq book stopped.
The new McKesson shares issued to HBOC holders were listed on this exchange and the Pacific Exchange under MCK.
The acquired software book later required restatement, and the parent dropped HBOC from its legal name.
The 1999 mechanism is a stock-for-stock listing: a Nasdaq health-software book was absorbed into an existing New York wholesaler tape.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that kept printing MCK.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
