Finance History | 11 Wall Street — A Mini-Mill Book That Printed NUE After Nuclear Dropped the Name

People treat Nucor as a Charlotte steel house that always printed NUE after a finished New York book.
The 1972 issuer was Nucor Corporation, the name the board had adopted in 1971 after Nuclear Corporation of America concentrated on electric-arc mini mills rather than nuclear services.
The company's own history page records that Nucor listed under NUE on the New York Stock Exchange for the first time in 1972, the same year it announced a second mill at Norfolk, Nebraska.
Market listing tables commonly record 12 July 1972 as the first Big Board trade date under those letters.
The present tape is still NUE on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is a name-change listing: the old nuclear-services conglomerate book became a steel book, and the exchange printed the shortened letters the company still uses.
No cash offer price is restated here because the company's own record of the 1972 listing does not publish one.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that has printed NUE since that year.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
