People treat Newmont as a Denver gold house that always printed NEM after a finished New York book.
The company's own history records that Colonel William Boyce Thompson organized Newmont in New York, that the firm was reincorporated in 1921, and that it sold its first public shares in 1925 after adding Mining to the name.
The same official history states that the common has been publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange since 1940.
Independent listing tables date that New York listing to 27 January 1940 and still show the tape as NEM.
The present issuer is Newmont Corporation, still listed on the New York Stock Exchange under NEM, and later also quoted on the Australian Securities Exchange after the 2023 Newcrest combination.
The mechanism is a long New York listing, not a modern cash IPO: a mining holding company that has kept one gold tape on the same exchange for more than eight decades.
The pin is the public Broad Street facade of the 1903 New York Stock Exchange building, the street marker for the tape that has printed NEM.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
