People treat Sherwin-Williams as a Cleveland coatings house that always printed SHW after a finished New York book.
The 1964 issuer was already public. The company's own history records that the shares were first traded on the American Stock Exchange in 1925.
The same official timeline records that in 1964 Sherwin-Williams was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the letters SHW.
Market directories date that New York tape to 11 February 1964.
The operating firm is older than either exchange book. Henry Sherwin and Edward Williams organized The Sherwin-Williams Company in Cleveland in 1866.
A later company profile that tries to move the New York listing to 1971 is not the company's own record. The 1964 New York date is the one the issuer still publishes.
The present tape is still SHW on the New York Stock Exchange.
The mechanism is an already-listed industrial transferring its primary book from the American Stock Exchange to the New York tape, not a cash initial public offering priced that week.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the Exchange, the public marker for that New York listing.
Interior trading is not visitable from the sidewalk.
