People treat Amphenol as a Wallingford connector house that always printed APH on a mature Big Board book.
The 1991 tape was a recapitalization, not a first appearance.
American Phenolic Corporation was founded in Chicago in 1932. The company's own history says Amphenol Electronics listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1957, then passed through Bunker Ramo and Allied before an LPL Investment leveraged buyout in 1987.
On 8 November 1991 the company returned to the Big Board under the letters APH.
A contemporary Meriden Record-Journal account, later summarized in a documented company chronology, put the delayed offer at 9.25 U.S. dollars a share after an earlier 13.50-to-15.50 range would not clear.
The same account described a 17.3 million-share sale used to cut long-term debt left from the buyout.
Proceeds were meant to refinance bank lines and replace high-yield paper, not to fund a new plant.
The letters have stayed APH. KKR took a majority stake in 1997 and exited by 2004.
The pin is the Broad Street facade of the exchange that took the 1991 book. The trading floor is not a visitor gallery.
The mechanism is an LBO exit that relisted a connector manufacturer so the public tape could retire private-market debt.
