Biography | Guillaume Faury — The Toulouse Diploma That Led from SUPAERO to Flight Testing

Guillaume Faury's route to the Airbus leadership passed through a specialist aeronautical school in Toulouse.

In 1992 he completed his training at the École nationale supérieure de l'aéronautique et de l'espace, widely known as SUPAERO.

The school's alumni association identifies him with the 1992 promotion, while Airbus's biography records the Toulouse qualification after his 1990 graduation from the École polytechnique.

The sequence matters: a general engineering education was followed by a qualification devoted to aeronautics and space.

SUPAERO had occupied its Toulouse site since 1968, according to the school's own building history.

That history lists the address as 10 avenue Édouard Belin; the institution now gives visitors its approach at 10 avenue Marc Pélegrin, in the Rangueil scientific complex.

These addresses describe the school site and its public approach at different times.

The memory is anchored to the institution where he trained, without claiming a particular graduation hall or ceremony date.

Faury's diploma predates the modern ISAE-SUPAERO name.

In October 2007, SUPAERO and ENSICA merged to form the Institut supérieur de l'aéronautique et de l'espace.

Their shared institutional history should not erase the name of the school that awarded his qualification fifteen years earlier.

In 1992 Faury began his career as a flight-test engineer on the Tiger helicopter within the Direction générale de l'armement, the French defence procurement agency.

The Toulouse training therefore sits at a consequential transition between engineering education and the testing of aircraft.

Later management appointments can make that technical beginning easy to overlook.

Here, the defining moment is the qualification that preceded the flight-test work, rather than an executive appointment decades later.

The campus remains an educational institution; visitors should follow its published access arrangements and respect restricted teaching and residential areas.
