Biography | Bernadette Meehan — The Sansome Street Floor Where She Took the Wikimedia Helm

People treat the Wikimedia Foundation as a Florida startup that never left St. Petersburg.

The administrative office Meehan walked into sits on the eighteenth floor of One Sansome Street, a 41-storey tower finished in 1984 at Sutter and Sansome in San Francisco's Financial District.

The Foundation moved there on 1 October 2024 from One Montgomery Tower, a few hundred metres away, and lists Suite 1895 as the public mailing address.

On 9 December 2025 the Board of Trustees appointed Bernadette Meehan chief executive officer.

Reuters reported the same day that she would succeed Maryana Iskander.

She started on 20 January 2026, the date the Foundation's own governance timeline records as her first day and the date Wikipedia later used for the office.

She is the sixth person to hold the chief executive title at the Foundation.

The appointment landed as Wikipedia marked twenty-five years and as the organization argued with governments and technology firms over how volunteer-written pages are reused by machine systems.

The Foundation's press release named product work, AI and content rules, relations with volunteer communities, and the donation model as the job in front of her.

This pin is the public tower, not a home and not a private calendar.

One Sansome Street is an ordinary office building with a granite bank pavilion at its foot. Staff occupy a few thousand square feet, not the skyline.
