Yahoo's first hack days were an inside sport.
On 29 and 30 September 2006 the company opened the Sunnyvale headquarters to outside developers.
The address on the maps of that decade was 701 First Avenue.
TechCrunch announced the public event on 25 August 2006.
After the weekend it named Horowitz, then vice president of product strategy, among the organizers and judges.
Beck played the courtyard on the Friday night.
Fifty-odd teams demoed on Saturday.
Horowitz had arrived at Yahoo in May 2004 as director of media search.
By 2006 his Advanced Development brief included the Developer Network, Brickhouse, and the public hack-day experiment.
The campus at First Avenue is the pin.
The buildings have been remade since later owners took the portal.
The courtyard concert is still the public moment.
A visitor coming for the 2006 story should expect a corporate park, not a museum.
