I Can Hear Your Voice|Supreme Court of Korea — The Last Building the Public Defender Walk Would Reach

Seocho Judicial Town is not one courthouse. It is a district. A few hundred metres from the Central District Court, the Supreme Court of Korea occupies its own 1995 campus at 219 Seocho-daero: sixteen floors, East and West wings, a forecourt that was built to look like the end of an argument.
I Can Hear Your Voice never pretends Jang Hye-sung argues here. She is a public defender in a fictional district court. The pilgrimage still stops at this gate because the drama's subject is the whole ladder of Korean justice — the interview that gets her the state job, the trial that should have ended a murder ten years earlier, the later hearings that try to undo a lie. Visitors who come for Hye-sung walk the same legal street the bar already occupies. More than a third of Seoul's practicing attorneys work out of Seocho-dong.
The building opened on the centenary of Korea's modern courts. It is open to the plaza, closed to casual wandering. That split is useful. The drama is about who gets heard and who is told they are too young, too poor, or too late. From the sidewalk you see the emblem and the flags. You do not hear the chamber. Soo-ha would have heard everything. You will hear traffic on Seocho-daero and the click of court shoes.
Leave the gate without trying to force an episode number onto the facade. The point of this stop is the town, not a single take.
