Biography | Brian Niccol — The Farmer School Electives That Turned an Engineer

People file the Starbucks chief as a restaurant operator who always knew the brand side.

The first diploma is an engineering degree on this Oxford, Ohio campus.

Brian R. Niccol was born in 1974.

Public profiles call him a native of Philadelphia.

A precise childhood address is not on the public record, and later coverage sometimes treats Orange County as home because that is where he settled as an adult.

He enrolled at Miami University to study engineering.

Miami's own Farmer School profile and a 2024 university news brief both record a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, finished in 1996.

A later local commencement preview names the program more tightly as Applied Science and Engineering Management.

Farmer School of Business sits on North Patterson Avenue, on the east side of the main academic quad.

He took marketing electives here while still on the engineering track.

University coverage of his 2024 return credits a marketing class, and the Farmer School lecturer Jan Taylor, with showing him brand work as a path.

In 1995, before graduation, he interned at Procter and Gamble.

After 1996 he joined P&G in brand management and stayed about a decade.

The Oxford campus is still a working university.
