Biography|Lars Wagner — The Bremen Halls Where He Learned the Airframe First

Airbus-Allee 1 sits on the old Focke-Wulf ground beside Bremen airport.

The visitor desk is in the foyer of that address. Behind it, the plant still builds high-lift devices and outfits long-range wings.

Lars Wagner arrived here as an apprentice Fluggerätebauer, an aircraft mechanic, in 1997.

Airbus's own later biography puts the year on the record and names the employer as Daimler Benz Aerospace, the German Airbus company of that decade.

He was twenty-two, a Cuxhaven Abiturient who had chosen the shop floor before the lecture hall.

Munzinger's register confirms the order: school in Cuxhaven, then the Bremen apprenticeship, then mechanical and aeronautical engineering at RWTH Aachen.

The plant is not a museum of that year.

The halls have been rebuilt and the company name on the gate has changed more than once.

What has not changed is the work the site exists to do — flaps, slats, and the systems that make a wing usable at takeoff and landing.

A later executive who can talk about an A350 fuselage or a geared turbofan is more persuasive if he once fitted parts with his own hands on this ground.
